What are your guilty pleasure movies? Don’t deny it, I know you’ve got them. I like to think my wife and I had something to do with that decision being a prime example of people who’ve made it just fine with only online offerings and downloads for three years now. They purchased an HD antenna for their plasma TV, and are going to give going service-free a try. He and his wife had been DirecTV subscribers for a year, but their new apartment faced the wrong way to obtain a DTV satellite signal. So, one of my good friends, Chris Johns, recently moved. I’ve also acquired a couple albums by Two Steps From Hell a musical group that writes epic music for movie trailers. More recently I’ve gotten into the music from the Mass Effect games (clip in the post below). Some of my favorite music was written for Battlestar Galactica, by the incredibly talented Bear McCreary. I don’t discriminate between movies, television and video game music. There’s something about lyric-less, epic, moody music to put my creativity and passion into overdrive, and nothing does it better than a stirring soundtrack. When I REALLY want to knuckle down and feel inspired, however, I listen to soundtracks.
Generally, I listen to a wide variety of music-whatever tickles my fancy at a given moment. Whether it be banging out a screenplay, or agonizing over my latest wedding video edit music helps me concentrate. Stirring music, or just music that creates a mood that’s in line with whatever I’m creating, motivates me to not only continue creating, but also amplifies the quality and intensity of my work. Whether your particular medium of choice is writing, coding, photography, video, I’m sure that each of you has a particular thing or things that motivate you to create.
